Is one of your new year’s resolutions to decorate or redesign your home in 2025? Then today is your lucky day as we’ve got just the blogpost for you! Here at Eliza Grace Interiors, we help the people of Brisbane decorate and design the home of their dreams. Whether that is undertaking a brand-new build, selecting new furniture and homewares for your existing home or styling and decorating specific rooms of the house, we’ve got you covered. When designing client’s homes, we notice a few popular styles that come up time and time again and that we find ourselves gravitating towards. Today we are sharing our top three most popular design styles our clients love and that we love designing with!
Transitional
The transitional design style has grown in popularity the past few years and we project it will be around for years to come. This is because the transitional design style is the use of both modern and traditional elements to create a unique style that is both contemporary, yet classic. Transitional design style sticks to a neutral colour palette in all large furniture pieces, so when selecting items like sofas, occasional chairs, beds and tables keep this in mind. We also see a lot of natural timber elements in this design style and items such as coffee tables, console tables and dining tables are often a beautiful classic, oak timber. The modern elements can be added through items such as light fixtures, side tables, window coverings, wallpaper and decorative accessories. Soft furnishings are where you can inject some colour and pattern, but again we recommend sticking to more muted tones such as sage green, navy blue and deep oranges for a classic look. For inspiration on this look, we love Studio McGee and believe they can do no wrong when it comes to transitional style!
Modern Contemporary
The next interior design style that we find our clients gravitate towards is a modern contemporary look. Contemporary design style can be defined differently depending on who you are talking to, but today we are sharing how we design homes in this modern look. Overall, the spaces are quite minimal, yet incorporate bold pops of colour, curved edges and statement pieces. We again, like to keep larger furniture items neutral, but add a surprise modern element such as a baby blue occasional chair or fun, graphic wallpaper. Often these interiors use contrasting black in elements such as floor lamps, frames of artwork and decorative accessories. For inspiration we love what The Stables are doing with modern contemporary interiors.
Queensland Coastal
Another popular design style we often use here in Brisbane is ‘Coastal’ with a twist of Hamptons. The modern and classic Queenslander home incorporates large balconies, VJ wall panelling and light and bright interiors which blend perfectly with a coastal design style. The Queensland Coastal design style has a warm toned colour palette of oak timbers, brass finishes, soft white walls and natural textures. Think light toned furniture items, textured pendant lighting, rattan finishes and rendered walls. You won’t see much black in this design style or any chrome finishes, be sure to stick to warmer tones that evoke a sense of calm and beachside serenity. For inspiration on this design style, you can’t go past Three Birds Renovations.
